Learn About Water

Nickel (Ni)

Nickel is a metal primarily found in water used in the metal finishing operation. Drinking water standards are set at 0.1 mg/l. This is due to the proven hazardous effects relating to the nervous system, liver heart and dermatitis tissues. Metal finishers are required to limit discharges < 4.1 mg/l daily maximum or 2.6 mg/l average four day limit. Local limits may be more stringent than these federally set standards.
